Savannah-Chatham police are searching for a 23-year-old Savannah man who is wanted for battery on an officer, obstruction and loitering and prowling near Sheftall and Penn Waller roads.
Police have obtained warrants for the arrest of Terrence Warner, said Eunicia Baker, Savannah-Chatham polices spokeswoman.
At about 2 a.m. an Islands Precinct patrol officer stopped Warner after reports of someone fitting his description was prowling in yards and tampering with vehicles, Baker said. Warner complied with the officer initially, but attempted to flee as the officer stepped away to verify his identity. Warner struck the officer as that officer attempted to subdue him. The two scuffled briefly before Warner fled. The officer sustained minor injuries, Baker said. Warner was not located after a search of the area.
Warner is described as a black male standing 5 feet 9 and weighing 180 pounds. He wore dark clothing and a dark knit hat during the incident. Warner is known to frequent east and west Savannah as well as Pooler.
