The Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 40-year-old man wanted for several felony drug charges.
CNT is looking for Joey “Grind Joe” Bernard Hoffman, of Savannah. Hoffman is described as a 5-foot-9, 175-pound black male, with brown eyes and short black hair with a goatee, said Gene Harley, CNT spokesman. He may be armed and should be considered dangerous, Harley Hoffman is wanted by CNT on multiple felony drug charges including sale of a controlled substance.
In November, CNT began an investigation into Hoffman following information he was selling various forms of controlled substances. During the course of the investigation, undercover CNT agents made multiple purchases of controlled substances from Hoffman, Harley said.
Wednesday morning, CNT conducted a search of Hoffman’s residence located in the 600 block Seiler Avenue resulting in the seizure of controlled substances and items commonly associated with the distribution of controlled substances and also seized Hoffman’s Mercedes SUV. He was not home at the time of search, Harley said. Hoffman is also known to frequent the 5000 block of Temple Street, where CNT with the help of Savannah-Chatham police SWAT and other agencies, attempted to serve Hoffman warrants on Wednesday. CNT agents were in the area of the 5000 block of Temple Street when agents observed a male believed to be Hoffman, Harley said. Agents attempted a second pass of the male to confirm or deny the male was Hoffman however; the agents were unable to locate the male. Agents surrounded the residence associated with Hoffman and knocked on the door with no answer.
Contact was made with Hoffman via telephone and he was uncooperative with law enforcement and discontinued communication. Entry was made into the residence with the homeowner’s permission but no one was found inside.
Hoffman has 23 separate bookings in the Chatham County Detention Center and is currently on both Parole and Probation.
