Savannah-Chatham police said Sunday they are investigating three weekend shootings that left four people injured.

About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers arrived in the 600 block of East 38th Street to find a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds, said police spokeswoman Eunicia Baker. Neither person’s injuries were believed to be life threatening, and they were taken to Memorial University Medical Center.

The two victims were walking on East 38th with a child when shots were fired at them from a green, four-door Buick. The child was not harmed, Baker said.

Detectives believe the man was the intended target.

Then, just before 3 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 600 block of Indian Street after receiving a shots-fired call. Detectives think an 18-year-old man was shot there while leaving a nightclub.

He wasn’t there when police arrived, though. The victim showed up at Memorial in a personal vehicle and was met by detectives, Baker said.

Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shots fired alert in Yamacraw Village. A man was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Baker said the man was taken to Memorial with injuries that police did consider to be life threatening.

Police are working to figure out who the shooters were in the cases.

They’re asking anyone with information on any of the shootings to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.

A confidential tip line also is open directly to investigators at 912-525-3124.

1 dead in Effingham shooting

The state is probing the Saturday night shooting death of an Effingham County woman in her home.

Nova Jill Saffles, 39, was slain inside her home at 404 N, Maple St. in Springfield, said Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Cyrus Purdiman.

Her boyfriend was booked into jail on a murder charge.

Springfield police asked the GBI to help with the investigation.

The shooting appears to be the result of a domestic dispute between Saffles and her 52-year-old boyfriend, Luis Vendrell, Purdiman said. After the shooting, Vendrell was arrested during a traffic stop by deputy sheriffs. He was taken to the Effingham County jail pending murder charges, Purdiman said. Jail logs showed him booked on the charge without bond.

The investigation is in its preliminary stage and is still ongoing.

An autopsy of Saffles’ body will be conducted by the GBI.

Investigators ask anyone with information that could help them to call GBI Statesboro at 912-871-1121, or the Springfield Police Department at 912-754-3061.
