Savannah-Chatham police investigate Monday night robbery

Savannah-Chatham police are investigating a robbery at the 400 block of West Congress Lane Monday night.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. as a man walked through Congress Lane, said Eunicia Baker, Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman. An unknown male subject approached the victim asking for a dollar and as the victim reached for his wallet, he was struck then beaten by another unknown subject. The suspects took the victim’s wallet then fled.

At about 10:30 p.m. police responded to Memorial University Medical Center, where a 30-year-old man sought treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the robbery, Baker said

Investigators believe there were at least two suspects in this case. One suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 30 and 40. The subject’s directions of travel are unknown, Baker said.
